logo West Lancashire Positive Living were set up in February 2005 by parents and carers who wanted to provide a better future for their sons and daughters with learning disabilities.  They were set up to address the need for quality and choice that had been lacking in service provision.

They provide a regular programme of acitivities that help reduce social isolation, build friendships and enable people to follow their interests, while providing a break for family or carer.

You can contact West Lancashire Positive Living at Certacs House, 10 - 12 Westgate, Skelmersdale, Lancs, WN8 8AZ, telephone 07518 347559 or you can visit their website.

report

Cornwall Investigation Report
In 2005, the Commission for Social Care and Inspection and the Healthcare Commission looked at how services in Cornwall were being run. Some people in Cornwall were worried about the way that services for people with a learning disability were being run. They were worried that people with a learning disability in Cornwall were not getting the support they needed and that some people were being abused.

This report found lots of things that were bad about Cornwall services and gave recommendations to make them better. We in Lancashire need to look at the report and make sure that we don’t make the same mistakes that Cornwall made.

Crime prevention

Protecting Vulnerable Adults from Crime

The 'Keep Safe' booklet contains advice on how to keep safe when at home and when outside alone, including tips on using public transport and cash machines. It also deals with bullying, attacks and mugging, which often go unreported to the police. There is also advice on where to go for help and how to report incidents to the police.
